Good memories, Chuck. I am surprised that no one on the video was heard to shout "MINE" Dave

Just now hearing about Doc Klein's passing & send genuine kondolences to WIFL. (Have been gone [France] for a spell & have tried to stay as unconnected as possible.) Hope we will take time to hoist a glass in his memory at reunion--he was quite a guy.

Jessie, You can download a copy of the 2011 Kamp Kewanee Directory here. It is 105 pages long, so it takes a minute or two to load. According to our records, your dad was a kamper from 1928-1933, and a kounselor from 1934-1939. In the 1929 Final... (more)

Does the Roll-call still exist? I am researching relatives, many of whom went to Kamp. I’m Charlie “Chink” Affelder’s daughter. My brother was Dave Affelder, who also was a kamper at Keeanee. I used to visit Kamp in the 50s and early 60s.

I was in that mess hall! I can also never forget it was both my dad's and Doc Fleishman's birthday. That had been parents' weekend and Doc mentioned it to my folks as they were driving away on Saturday evening.

Fifty years ago tomorrow Kamp Kewanee Kampers gathered in the night to watch the moon landing on a grainy black and white tv. It was hard to see, but we knew what we were watching was history. This is a story I've recalled and remembered many times to family and friends. Where were you?

The Tank was pulled up onto the "underground RR tracks" by Fritz Rudat's tractor. Pre-Doc Fleischman tank rebuild in early 60s, it was buoyed by 50-gallon steel drums. Doc used large styrofoam blocks. In late spring, Fritz did minor cleaning and repairing/painting before set up counselors arrived.

Ok Guys need information. I was never there before Kamp to set up. Was the tank kept in the lake all year round or was it taken out. How was the tank kept floating and was it cleaned each year. My reason for asking is, my daughter is buying a lake house, and wants to build something like that tank... (more)

So sorry to hear about "Doc". He was a long time friend of my father, going back to the day that they both worked for Triangle. A great loss for all of us.

Thank you all for your kind words. My Dad, known at kamp as "Doc", loved the many, many life-long friends he made at kamp, and was looking forward to the next reunion. Alas, so many memories lost. His career in broadcasting started at kamp. One example: during Red and Black week, he... (more)

My last year as a kounselor (1960) I earned $250. I believe my last year as a kamper cost my father $525.

For some ungodly reason and out of the blue, I recently thought of my two years at Kamp (1945 & 1946); and went to the iNet finding this site. I was brought up in West Hartford, CT and presently live in Newport Beach, CA. In doing some searching, I noticed another Kamper with an email address... (more)
